SSN Institutions Students Win at Smart India Hackathon – Hardware edition 2019

Chennai, July 14, 2019: Seven teams from SSN Institutions (the first initiative of the Shiv Nadar Foundation in the field of education) were declared winners at Smart India Hackathon 2019 (SIH 2019) Hardware edition. The winners were selected from over a thousand teams and more than one lakh technical students who participated from across the country. This was the second time that the public and private sector companies became part of Smart India Hackathon. The teams competed in the final round, which had three categories of prize money i.e. Complicated (Rs 100,000), Complex (Rs 75,000), and Simple (Rs 50,000). The students were declared winners for the following projects:

  1. Techdocs, the team led by Suhashine S, mentored by Dr B Geethanjali of the Biomedical Engineering Department at SSN won for developing a system using Electromotive force, that measures Blood Pressure (BP) continuously without wearing a cuff.  The problem statement was given by GE Healthcare, BSDU in Jaipur and the students received a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-.
  2. Bioses, the team led by Arvindh Swaminathan M B, mentored by Dr. V. Mahesh of the Bio-Medical Engineering Department at SSN won for developing an Infrared sensor that measures the human weight of critically ill, traumatic patients. This will further help doctors to provide accurate dosage to the patients as per their weight. The problem statement was given by GE Healthcare, BSDU in Jaipur and the students received a cash prize of Rs.1,00,000/-.
  3. TechEEE2.0, the team led by Vikram A. S., mentored by Dr V. Rajini of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at SSN won for developing an open source motor controller for hybrid vehicle. The problem statement was given by Tata motors, IISER, Pune and the students received a cash prize of Rs.1,00,000/-
  4. MemBRAINS, the winning team led by Vinatha. V, mentored by Dr. D. Gnanaprakash, Dr K.P.  Gopinath of the Chemical Engineering Department at SSN won for its idea of converting Lignin into useful chemicals, fuels and materials. Lignin is obtained in the form of waste from 2G Ethanol plant. The problem statement was given by Indian oil, KIET, Ghaziabad and the students received a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-
  5. Infinity Clones, the winning team led by Sharavanee D.P., mentored by Dr.W Jino Hans of the Electronic and Communication Engineering Department at SSN won for devising a solution   which can monitor and alert vehicle owners about the quality of engine oil, and subsequent kilometres left while driving. This helps in maximum utilisation of engine oil, and also saves the users’ time and money. The problem statement was given by Tata motors, IISER, Pune and the students received a cash prize of Rs. 75,000/-
  6. TechEEE1, the winning team led by Ritika, mentored by Dr. K.P.Gopinath and A. Murugesan of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at SSN won for its idea of  generating water from thin air using Metal Organic Framework at a low cost of approximately Rs 1/ litre. The problem statement was given by ANIC, IIT Hyderabad and the students received a cash prize of Rs. 75,000/-
  7. The Alchemists 2.0, the team led by Santhoosh Aravind S, mentored by Dr U.Shajith Ali of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department won for developing Non Invasive Blood Pressure Measurement(CNIBP) devise using an Infrared sensor. The problem statement was given by GE Healthcare, BSDU in Jaipur and the students received a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- 

The Smart India Hackathon is a part of Shri. Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative and was launched on November 9, 2016. This is SSN’s second consecutive win at the second edition of the Hackathon’s Hardware edition.
