Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu inaugurated CEAT Ltd.’s first manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu

  • CEAT launched its largest passenger radial tyres manufacturing plant in Kanchipuram district
  • Shri. Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in the presence of Shri M. C. Sampath, Minister of Industries Tamil Nadu inaugurated the plant
  • Investment of INR 4000 Cr planned over the next 10 years

 Chennai, 12th February 2020: One of the leading tyre manufacturers in India, CEAT Ltd. expanded their presence in the country with their first greenfield plant in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The plant was inaugurated by Shri. Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in the presence of Shri M. C. Sampath, Minister of Industries Tamil Nadu.

With a total plot area of 163 acres, the plant has a manufacturing capacity of 28,500 passenger car radial tyres per day and 2,500 motor-cycle radial tyres per day. It is one of the most advanced tyre plants in South Asia with a capability of serving developed markets and high-end automobile manufacturers. An investment of INR 1400 Cr. has been made, which will offer employment to over 1000 individuals in the next few years. CEAT is one of the first tyre companies to employ women on the shop floor and plans to further increase women employment in its Chennai factory. This is CEAT’s 6th manufacturing facility in India with plants located in Mumbai, Nasik, Nagpur, Ambernath and Halol.

The Guest of Honour, Thiru. Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu said, “We are delighted that CEAT and the RPG Group have decided to launch their manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, India’s largest tyre manufacturing state. CEAT’s factory will be a jewel in the crown of Tamil Nadu. We are certain that this will bring many new job opportunities.”

The expansion will create skill development opportunities for the people of Tamil Nadu along with amenities such as specialized training, uniform, canteen and transport. From a hygiene standpoint, the plant will aid in improving the livelihood of the neighbourhood by ensuring necessities such as water and sanitation.
