World AIDS Day Observance 2025 Madras School of Social Work

The Indian Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS (INP+), in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS), Madras School of Social Work (MSSW), and the Indian Association for the Study of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and AIDS (IASSTD & AIDS), organized the World AIDS Day Observance 2025 at the TAG Auditorium, MSSW.
 
This year’s theme, “Young voices, stronger futures: Together for HIV awareness and care,” highlighted the role of youth in challenging stigma, promoting inclusivity, and strengthening the HIV response.
The program opened with a welcome address by the student representative, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp. Key dignitaries present included Sri T. Thangavelu, Assistant Director (LS), TANSACS; Sri Raja Samuel, Principal, MSSW; Dr. Mahalingam, Treasurer, IASSTD & AIDS; Ms. Noorisa Salem, President, South India Positive Network (SIP+); Ms. P. Kousalya, President, Positive Women Network (PWN+); and Mr. R. Selvam, President, Network for Chennai PLHIV (NCP+).
 
Keynote remarks emphasized the importance of youth leadership in breaking stigma, fostering community resilience, and ensuring access to HIV prevention and treatment services. INP+ CEO Ms. Snehalatha A and representatives from partner networks reinforced the need for continued collaboration and advocacy.
 
The event also marked the release of the INP+ E-Newsletter, launched by Sri T. Thangavelu.
 
A panel discussion on “Youth as Change Agents in Ending HIV Stigma” featured Ms. David Daisy (INP+), Dr. Mahalingam, Ms. Noorie Saleem, and moderator Ms. Uthra (MSSW). The session focused on empowering young people to drive awareness, lead inclusive initiatives, and support PLHIV in education and community spaces.
 
Students later took a pledge committing to solidarity, inclusion, and awareness. A symbolic action, “Red Threads,” followed with the distribution of red awareness ribbons to reaffirm unity against stigma.
 
The program concluded with a vote of thanks and a group photograph with all dignitaries, faculty, student leaders, and community partners.
