Gleneagles Global Health City, the largest facility of Gleneagles Global Hospitals, a Parkway Pantai enterprise, hosted the first International Conference on Lung Transplant and Advanced Management of Interstitial Lung Diseases, titled, ‘ILDCON 2018’ in Chennai today. The ILDCON conference witnessed a wide spread and enthusiastic participation medical experts from India and across the world that included about 350 specialist pulmonologists, intensivists and cardio-thoracic surgeons and about 100 international and national faculty of highest repute. Padma Bhushan Shri Kamal Haasan, Actor, Founder and President of Makkal Needhi Maiam, inaugurated the event. Dr J. Radhakrishnan, IAS, Principal Secretary – Health and Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, addressed the gathering stressing on the importance of organ donation and transplantation.
ILDCON was envisaged by Dr Sandeep Attawar, Chairman and Program Director, Institute of Heart & Lung Transplantation, Gleneagles Global Hospitals, and Dr Apar Jindal, Transplant Pulmonologist, Gleneagles Global Health City as a means to deliver high quality teaching in the field of end stage lung disease and transplantation. The conference is dazzled with participation by national & international experts in the field of advanced management of end stage lung disease, pulmonary critical care, thoracic surgery and lung transplantation. The scientific programme comprises of lectures, interactive panel discussions, and case discussions.
World renowned pulmonary and cardio-thoracic transplant experts from USA such as Dr Steves Ring, Dr Fernando Torres, Dr Harish Seethamraju, Dr Ganesh Raghu, Dr Srinivas Bollineni, Dr NamitaSood and Dr David Naidich contributed to make the event a huge success.
The Heart and Lung Transplant Program at Gleneagles Global Health City was established in 2011, when
the first successful single lung transplant in India was done. The current heart & lung transplant team has the largest experience in the field with 100 transplants including 50 hearts and 50 lungs to their credit, in the last 18 months. With a post transplantation success rate at par with international
standards, the Heart & Lung Transplant Program has given a very robust and viable treatment option to patients suffering from End Stage Lung Disease from India and abroad.
