A delegation headed by Gujarat Tourism Minister Ganpat Vasava on Monday invited Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for the unveiling of the ‘Statue of Unity,’ dedicated to ‘Iron Man of India’ Sardar Vallabhai Patel in Gujarat on October 31.
The delegation called on the Governor and the Chief Minister and personally handed over the invitations asking them to grace the function.
Touted to be tallest statue at 182 metres it would be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31 to mark the birth anniversary of Patel.
The statue was being built at a cost of Rs 2,389 crore at Sadhu Bet island on Narmada river and the workers were giving finishing touches to it.
Later, talking to reporters, Mr Vasava said the statue would be a befitting tribute to the great leader and would also help in boosting tourism in the area and bring local employment.
”This will further strengthen the living standards of the people in the district and areas nearby”, he added.
The high level delegation comprised Dr. Kirtibhai Solanki, Member of Parliament; Shri C.K. Raulji, Shri Balram Thawani, Shri Kantibhai Balar,Shri Arjunsinh Chauhan Senior BJP MLAs along with Mr. T. Natarajan, IAS, Managing Director, GSPC; Dr. K Shashikumar, IFS, Deputy Forest Conservator and Mr. M.N Modi, Deputy Secretary.
