Puducherry, 2024 December 06: Dr. N. Murugesan, Chairman, East Coast Hospitals, Puducherry. affectionately known as Dr. Blue India, today announced the launch of an ambitious initiative through the Dr. Blue India Foundation to extend the healthy lifespan of every Indian by at least 10 years, striving to make India a global ‘Blue Zone’ – a region renowned for longevity and health.
At the heart of this mission lies Dr. Murugesan’s groundbreaking research on insulin optimisation, which underscores its vital role in preventing and reversing non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Alarmingly, 85% of individuals, including non-diabetics, have elevated insulin levels-a silent precursor to conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, hypertension, and cancer.
Recognising this urgent health challenge, Dr. Murugesan advocates for integrating insulin testing into routine health check-ups, a transformative step in preventive healthcare. Through the Foundation, he has pledged to conduct one lakh free insulin tests, worth 30 crores, targeting key societal groups like students, teachers, police personnel, MPs, and MLAs in Puducherry and Tamilnadu.
Dr.N. Murugessn advocates A Three-Pronged Approach for Healthier Living NCDs and promote longer, healthier lives:
1. Insulin Optimisation: Addressing elevated insulin levels to reduce the risk of metabolic disorders.
2. Salt Reduction: Encouraging lower sodium intake to combat salt toxicity and its associated health risks.
3. Lifestyle Modifications: Promoting physical activity, balanced nutrition, and stress management.
These interventions are proven to prevent, control, and even reverse NCDs, improving overall health outcomes for millions.
Explaning about India’s Unique Health Challeges Dr. Murugesan said as the world’s most populous nation with 1.45 billion people, India faces significant health challenges.
• 15% are insulin-sensitive, and naturally resistant to NCDs.
• 85% are insulin-resistant, with elevated insulin levels leading to severe health conditions.
This imbalance underscores the need for widespread insulin awareness and testing, which are often overlooked in routine healthcare.
Why Focus on Insulin?
Elevated insulin levels, even without abnormal blood sugar, are a hidden threat contributing to 75% of global deaths. Addressing insulin toxicity can significantly enhance life expectancy and reduce disease
prevalence. Of the 6.08 billion people globally with elevated insulin:
• 42 crores have Type 2 diabetes.
• 66 crores are pre-diabetic.
• 5 billion have high insulin with normal blood sugar levels.
Optimising insulin can add at least 10 healthy years to the average life expectancy of 73.33 years.
The Role of Salt in Health
Excessive salt intake is another silent killer. While the body needs only 500 mg of sodium daily (1.25 g of salt), the global average consumption is 10.8 g/day, leading to toxicity. High salt levels contribute to millions of deaths annually through conditions like hypertension, heart disease, and cancer. Reducing salt intake, either directly or through low-sodium alternatives, is vital for disease prevention and improved health.
The Chief Guest Shri. C. Udayakumar, IAS Secretary Health (Retd) Govt. of Puducherry. endorsed Dr.N.Murugesan’s ambitious plans to give all Indians healther and long life. Dr. Dilip Kumar Baliga, MS Sr. Consultant and Surgeon, Former Directorate of Health & Family welfare Services, Govt. of Puducherry.

Dr. Blue India Foundation’s Call to Action: The Foundation invites NGOs, government bodies, healthcare institutions, and industry leaders to join hands in creating a healthier India.
