Chennai, August 8, 2019: The RAI ‘Chennai Retail Summit 2019’ culminated into a gala evening of the ‘India Retail Excellence Awards’ that celebrate the outstanding achievers of the Indian Retail Industry. Gracing the evening as the Guest of Honour was veteran actor Padma Bhushan Shri Kamal Haasan.
Speaking about the awards, Shri. Kumar Rajagopalan – Chief Executive Officer, Retailers Association of India, said, “The India Retail Excellence Awards (IREA) have been instituted to shine the spotlight on the stars of retail who have shone bright despite all odds. It is a recognition of their efforts, focus and hard work and salute to their indomitable spirit to constantly stay relevant to the times, the customers and the industry.”
India Retail Excellence Awards 2019 recognised achievers across all formats of the retail such as Ethnic Wear, Electronics, Grocery, Jewellery, F&B, Apparel, Family Store, Services, Footwear, Mobile, Mall, Speciality Retail along with awards in special categories for innovators, propagators and trendsetters.
Under the special categories of awards, Actors Aishwarya Rajesh and SJ Surya were felicitated with the Unique Style Icons 2019 Award. Actor Kathir was the Promising Star of 2019 and Big Boss fame Arav was the Emerging Star of year.
A jury panel comprising of eminent personalities from the industry, thoroughly evaluated the entries that were shortlisted by a reputed audit agency to select the winners.

Attending the award function from the Indian retail fraternity were some very prominent names such as Lavanya Nalli, Vice Chairperson, Nalli Group; Shri. BA Srinivaasan, Jt. Managing Director & CEO, Vivek Pvt. Ltd; Suhail Sattar, Director – Hasbro Clothing Pvt Ltd & Chairman of Retailers Association of India – Chennai Chapter; and Shri. B S Nagesh – TRRAIN & Shoppers Stop Ltd., among others.
The IREA is an annual award function supported by the Retailers Association of India (RAI), which concludes the Chennai Retail Summit. The event is attended by the who’s who of the India Retail industry to celebrate exceptional work in retail.
