Chennai, 18th May 2025: World Hypertension Day is aimed at raising attention on the importance of a better hypertension control. This important worldwide activity, started by the World Hypertension League (WHL), was first held on May 14, 2005, and since then World Hypertension Day has been an ever-expanding yearly event.
Its purpose is to communicate to the public the importance of hypertension and its serious medical complications, and to provide information on its prevention, detection, and management.
To do this requires cooperation of health care professionals, media, volunteer organizations and government in each country.
To build mass awareness among public & medical fraternity in India WHL (World Hypertension League) under the ageis of Dr S N Narasingan is organizing full day event on 18th May’25 at Chettinad Vidyasram, Chennai where programme will begin with 3 blood pressure readings of all attendees followed by public awareness talk to educate about its menace on health as well as how to control & manage it. Then a pledge signature campaign by all attendees.
World Hypertension League is doing this program in collaboration with Indian Society of Hypertension represented by its President Dr.Ch.Vasanth Kumar , Tamilnadu State Chapter of Indian Society of Hypertension is represented by its Chairman Dr.K.Kannan & Secretary Dr.S.Chandrasekar and Association of Physicians of India ,Chennai Chapter .
Then post public awareness from 11 am to 1.30 pm there will be series of medical talks / discussions for doctors to make them aware about latest guidelines / clinical experience in the field of hypertension management. The programme will be attended by renowned doctors / cardiologist / Nephrologist & Neurologist .
Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer is this year’s theme to increase high blood pressure (BP) awareness and accuracy in BP Measurement, toward effective treatment of hypertension for a healthy, longer life.
