ALUMEX India 2025 to showcase the state’s leadership and global opportunities
19th August 2025, Chennai: Tamil Nadu, one of the most industrialised states in the country, has also emerged as one of the most important centres for aluminium manufacturing. A highly skilled workforce, coupled with world-class infrastructure, has helped the state become a reliable aluminium supplier for the local as well as international markets.
Tamil Nadu is home to a wide range of aluminium manufacturers producing sheets, coils, extrusions, and specialised products, catering to industries such as automotive, construction, packaging, and electronics. The state has built a reputation for consistent quality and reliable supply, making it a preferred destination for manufacturers looking to expand capacity.
The upcoming ALUMEX India 2025, organised by the Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India (ALEMAI), will showcase Tamil Nadu’s role in the aluminium industry’s future. The expo, India’s first and only dedicated platform for aluminium extrusion, will take place in New Delhi from September 10 to 13, bringing together more than 200 exhibitors and over 12,000 business visitors from across the aluminium value chain.
Jitendra Chopra, President of Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India (ALEMAI), said, “Tamil Nadu has become a strong player in the aluminium sector with its combination of industrial strength, skilled manpower, and global connectivity. The state is well placed to serve both India’s domestic demand and international markets. Through ALUMEX India 2025, we want to highlight these strengths and help businesses explore opportunities for collaboration and innovation.”
The aluminium extrusion sector in Tamil Nadu has grown on the back of favourable business policies, access to raw materials, and government incentives that encourage manufacturing investments. With major ports in Chennai, Ennore, and Tuticorin, manufacturers in Tamil Nadu benefit from efficient logistics for both imports of bauxite and exports of finished products. The state government’s support for industrial corridors, cluster development, and pro-industry initiatives has also strengthened the aluminium ecosystem.
India’s aluminium extrusion market is expanding steadily. From $8.39 billion in 2024, it is projected to reach $22.5 billion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 8.25% over the next decade. The southern region, led by states such as Tamil Nadu, is a major growth hub, with demand rising across infrastructure, renewable energy, and automotive sectors.
Despite the positive outlook, external challenges such as volatility in raw material prices, rising energy costs, and recent tariff actions by the United States could affect export competitiveness. The under-utilisation of domestic manufacturing capacity due to cheap imports is also a major concern. The total installed aluminium extrusion capacity in India is 3.5 million tonnes per annum, but the utilisation is only around 2 million tonnes, with the remaining 1.5 million tonnes imported.
Mr. Chopra added, “The sector needs safeguards in trade agreements and continued policy support to unlock its full potential. Tamil Nadu’s manufacturers are well prepared, but ensuring that domestic capacity is used efficiently will be crucial to long-term growth.”
ALUMEX India 2025 will address challenges facing the aluminium extrusion sector through sessions on technology localisation, green extrusion practices, government support for MSMEs, and emerging global trends. It will facilitate innovation and the adoption of sustainable practices. With participation from global players and leading Indian firms, ALUMEX India 2025 aims to strengthen the aluminium extrusion ecosystem and position India as a global manufacturing leader.
ALUMEX India 2025 is supported by Hindalco, Vedanta, and JNARDDC (an autonomous body under the Ministry of Mines), and the Ministry of MSMEs.
