1000 trees planted in the city, foundation stone laid for low-cost eatery

The Ulaga Mahaajothi Thavapeedam Arakattalai trust, headed by Chithar Adimai Konibaba on Sunday held an event to celebrate the beginning of many philanthropic activities.
 
Social activist Palam Kalyanasundaram who has spent over 50 years in social service and donated every single penny of his earning to the needy was conferred the title– Ulaga Thandhai (which translates to Universal Father in English).
 
Also, on the occasion, foundation stone was laid for an eatery inside Poonamalle Government Hospital, where after inauguration, food would be provided at subsidized prices. It is also named after Palam Kalyanasundaram.
 
At the same event, Rs.80,000 was donated for social service and as many as 1,000 trees were planted to promote greenery. Chennai airport assistant manager, Vivekanandan sponsored the tree plantation drive and also donated saplings.
 
Among the guests of the event were V Kalyanasundaram, Indian freedom fighter and Mahatma Gandhi’s personal secretary, Singapatti Maharaja and Nalli Kuppuswami Chetty from Nalli Silks
